Dead Elephant: Chapter Two

"I have a monster inside of me. It's down there, somewhere deep inside, screaming to be let out." Tyler says out loud to himself as he walks down the busy sidewalks of the city. "He's right there, in every shadow. He's that voice that screams out against the oppressor. I ignore him, at least I try to." He passes a few women who look at each other like he's crazy.
"If I give him an inch to show himself, let him out of that cage I've locked him in, I know putting him back would be extremely difficult." Tyler turns right around a corner, keeps walking. "I can feel only anger and destruction screaming my name, and their calls feel good. The feeling is settling, it makes me at ease. I've faked this stagnate smile for so long, I don't know what I'd do if I stopped. I doubt I'd be able to go back to that way of thinking. That calm and passive, happy go-lucky attitude, but it's what people expect, right?" Tyler's eyes began to fill up.
"I'm so useless, I can't believe I care that much about what people think!" He started to cry, then he heard a voice.
"Tyler!!!" It screamed, it was Tiffany. "Get your ass back here!" He turned to face her.
"What?" He shouted back.
"Tyler, come back home. You've had me worried!" She called out walking towards him.
"I've only been gone five minutes!" He called back, not walking.
"Just...just come home, okay? It's embarrassing admitting this." She said.
"It's embarrassing being owned by someone as pathetic as you!"

A voice came out of his throat, it sounded like his, but the words were someone else's.
"What did you say?" Tiffany asked with a mixture of anger and sadness.
"It's hard to believe you walked all the way out here, chasing me down. I mean, when have you ever shown any sort of affection towards me?"

The words came out again.
"Tyler, don't talk like that." She said in tears.
"I'm destroying all the tension between us, Tiffany. I'm leaving you."

"What!?" She screamed. "You can't leave me! Men don't have that right!"
"Just watch me."

"You little bastard, what gives you the idea that I'd just let you walk away and humiliate me in front of everyone!?" She screamed as Tyler slowly walked away.
"You see me leaving."

Tyler took a step onto the street, when suddenly a screeching sound of tires slammed into him. With a instinctive reaction, he knelt down and placed his hand palm up, on the pavement. In the next second, just as they heavy tires pushed down upon his delicate fingers, he lifted his arm and rose to his feet. The car flipped over him and slammed down on the pavement, sliding down the street on the roof until it stopped a few blocks away.
"Holy shit!" She screamed. "Tyler, what happened?!"
"Nothing." Tyler replied.
"Don't 'nothing' me, Tyler!" She screamed, now holding him in her arms.
"Tiffany, I'm fine." Tyler said calmly, his head resting on her shoulder.
"Then why did I just see you flip a car?" Tiffany asked.
"I was..." He paused, and she let him go. Her hands were on his elbows now. "I was, I was angry."
"Angry? Why?" Tears were forming in her eyes.
"Angry for the same reason I killed that invisible elephant!" He yelled tearing his arms away.
"You did what?" She asked horrified and confused.
"I killed an invisible elephant. You know, that tension between the two of us?" Tyler shouted as he got extremely close to her.
"I don't know what you're talking about!" She screamed covering her ears and turning around.
"Tiffany!" Tyler shouted grabbing her by an elbow and spinning her back around to face his. Her eyes were closed.
"Stop this, Tyler!" She screamed, both hands held tightly to her ears.
"Fine." He said. She opened her eyes, he let out a sigh and turned around.
"Tyler! Where are you going!?" Tiffany called out to him as he walked away from her. He stopped and looked back at her.
"...I'm going to find someone who cares."
"Don't you walk away from me!" She screamed after him.
"Tiffany, stop living in denial. I'm leaving you, go get drunk and take drugs, and fuck all those worthless slaves. I'm not one of them anymore. I've had enough from you." Then he walked off.
"Tyler! If you leave right now, I will never, ever take you back! Do you hear me!?" She screamed at his back. He kept walking. "Tyler! Please come back!" She fell to her knees and started sobbing. "Please! I promise I won't be so bad from now on! I promise!" But by this time he couldn't hear her anymore.
