Nightmare Stare [Chapter Fifteen]

"Audrey!?" I scream as I run into the garage.
"Yes? What's wrong, Victor?" She asks as I hurriedly begin working on her neck and torso.
"I've got two days." I say.
"Until what?" She asks.
"Until the trees come."
"What are you talking about, Victor?"
"Don't worry about it, I'll keep you safe." I tell her and beging sewing her neck on.
"Okay, but please tell me what you're talking about!" She yells.
I stop.
I look at her, in her perfect green eyes and I tell her.
"Audrey, I'm going to die in two days. There's a room in my house that leads to The Forest of Lost Souls, another dimension. The god there is in love with me, but I'm in love with you, and you're in lve with..."
"Not you." She finishes my sentence.
"Exactly, the one you love is never the one who loves you." I tell her, my hands around her ears, my fingers crossing behind her neck, her soft skin...its perfect. "So the trees are coming here, for me. And they'll want to take you from me, because that'll hurt me most."
"Oh, god." She says starting to tear up.
"I'm right here. I'll keep you safe." I tell her. "Don't you worry about me. Just listen to everything I tell you during the next few days. The things from that forest..." I pause. "...will haunt you forever."
"How did that forest connect to this house?" She asks and for the first time ever, I tell the story.
"I was married once." I tell her as I start working on her chest. "A wife and two kids: boy and a girl. I couldn't stand my wife. She was a cheating whore. I wanted so much to kill her, and did...after she left me. She was cheating on me for one whole year! The everything that I made, turned out to be nothing. It turned out that I was lying to myself. I lied so hard that I started believing it. The stale looks she had given me, they looked like an actor's muscle memory. She was just going through the motions. I hated her for that. So I killed her, I went to her mother's house, where she was staying. I came 'to give her key back', but when I got there what set me off was..." I paused. "She was happy. I saw that old spark of love in her eyes, not towards me, but towards what her life had become, and so I took her by the back of the head, by her hair...And slammed her face on the fire place until I broke my knuckles. Once I started it was just too hard to stop. I think I was just punchin the fire place for a while, not knowing her head was completely gone." I looked at Audrey, she was enveloped by my every disturbing word. "When I found out my son was a gay...I killed him too. This was shortly after, no one ever did find out it was me who had killed her. So my son still lived with me, he hated moving. I loved my son, more than anything, he was my legacy, until the day I caught another boy in his room. They were both naked.
"I came home from work early and I hear grunting coming from my son's room. Too men, grunting. Instantly I assume he's being assaulted, so I bust in. And there I see my son getting butt-fucked by some nigger. I take his head and slam it into my son's spin. I shatter his nose and my son's back. They're both screaming now, falling over on the ground in agony. I slam my foot down on the nigger's chest once, but it was so hard I never saw my foot print leave. The indentation of my foot was what killed him, I think. Crushed his heart. My son's twitching from the pain, and he looks at me and pleas, "Dad...don't hurt me." He says.
"You're not my son." Was the last thing I told him. Then I dug my thumbs into his eyes, he only screamed for a few minutes and then it was over. I never went back into the room."
"And your daughter?" Audrey asked.
"She left for college, and I never heard from her. She always sided with her mother. So when I lost Tiffany I lost Molly."
"So you never killed her?"
"No, I didn't." I say as I finish the torso. I could see that Audrey was shaking, she was afraid of me now. "Audrey, you're my repentence, my way of atoning for what I did back then, don't be afraid of me. Please." She nods. "After I killed my son and his nigger lover, I didn't talk to anyone anymore. And then that's when I was given a gift from God." She knew the rest of the story.
"So what about the forest?" She asked. I started sewing her left arm on at the shoulder blade.
"I think I made it." I was quiet. "I think it's rooted in my nightmares, and that's how it came to be."
"So you made them?"
"I think so. And just like man killed God, the trees are coming to kill me."
"But why?"
"She says my world is beautiful, and maybe she believes that, but I think its my son seeking revenge."
"So how long do we have?" Audrey asked.
"Two days, I'll finish you by tonight, don't worry."
"Okay, Victor. But what's going to happen?"
"Something terrible."
