Customer Service:The Slow Downfall of Happiness [Chapter Seven]

The world is flat if you believe in religion.
The world is round if you believe in science.

My answer is as simple as that.

Because if you believe in God, then you shouldn't believe in aliens, or space. Why would God make so many planets and galaxies and only give one life? That's you just being a megalomaniac.
Because if you believe in science, then you believe that the earth is round because it spins in space, therefore it would have to be round, due to gravity.

I kept my answer simple, as to not lose anyone, but the real conversation, at the beach was much longer, with Bella interjecting every now and then. She questioned my reasons which really made me think. I greatly enjoyed these talks with Bella, and always looked forward to the next time we'd have them.
Go back a few months.
Keep going.
Go back to when Crow was talking to me in the break room about Bella.
"I think she loves you." She said.
"What? How?" I asked drinking a bottle of cranberry juice Bella had left unfinished on the table.
"She reminds me of me before I got married." She said.
"Bella, liking me? Get the fuck out of here!" I said one time in the greeting cards aisle to Betty.
"No, I'm serious. I think she does!" She said sorting new cards.
"Why do you say that?" I asked, trying to look like I was working.
"Its the way you two fight." She said with a smile. "It's like you're married."
"But she fights with everyone!" I told her.
"Yeah, but I think its different with you. And plus its also the way she looks at you." She said.
"What do you mean?"
"When a girl isn't happy in her relationship, she gives off signals to other guys." Crow said on our lunch break, her, me and Manuel had all gone to Taco Hell.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"That's what I did."
"But she's in a three year relationship!" I said, then Manuel interjected.
"Man, that doesn't have anything to do with it."
"He might be right." Crow said. "I was also in a three year relationship. I didn't realize I hated it until after we broke up."
"Even if that's true, whereas Bella's involved, how do you make me the next candidate?" I asked.
"Like I said, its the way she looks at you." Betty said, back in the greeting card's aisle. "You can kind of tell."
"Are you sure?" I asked. My head started to ache with all of this middle school beating around the bush crushing type of gossip.
"I'm sure." She said. "I mean, you can tell she loves Mathew, but I think she has a secret crush on you. I think if she wasn't scared she would tell you."
"Wait, Bella, scared?" I asked in disbelief.
"Yeah, well Mathew is the only person who's stayed by her through everything she's been through. Wouldn't you be scared to lose someone like that?"
"Yeah, I guess you have a point." I said.
"But yeah, I think she likes the way you make her feel." Betty said.
"The way I make her feel?" I asked.
"Yeah, it must be flattering to have someone like you as much as you like her."
"But doesn't Mathew like her?" I asked.
"He treats her like shit, dude." Banessa told me once in the break room when she managed to say something other than, 'How 'about no, Scott.'.
"Why would she stay with him then?" I asked.
"Because she's so in love with him, its kinda sad, really." She said eating chips coated with hot sauce.
"Whoa, If I know Bella the way I think I do, she wouldn't stand for something like that." I said.
"The past can change how you live the present, fool." She said, I was shocked to hear her be so insightful. This great insight never did show itself again.
"Nah," Surge said one time behind the counter. "that fool, Mathew is her bitch."
"Really? Not surprised." I said sorting go-backs.
"Yeah, the only reason he asked her out was because me and one of my homies pretty much forced him to do it." He said with a laugh.
"You forced him?"
"Pretty much, he was all scared. But now, I guess that fool's finally getting some balls and not taking her shit anymore." Surge said.
"Well, good for him." I said. "But I'd let her have her way with me."
"Me too, man." Manuel said once in the back room as we broke down load. "I'd do crazy things to her." He closed his eyes and bite his lip.
"Calm down there, Manny." I said.
"I'm sorry, man. Its just that body." He said. "But I can't...my girlfriend."
"She has been blessed by the gods." I said.
"What did you say?!" Bella called out into the back room.
"That you're my best friend!" I called back.
"She's really you're best friend." Ivonna, a pharmacist asked in the break room once.
"Well, yeah!" I said.
"She's lucky she's your best friend or I would have laid her out." Crow said a different time in the break room. "She looked like she wanted to fight me in the office."
"Really?" I asked.
"Yeah, she looked so pissed, like she was about to start crying." Crow said.
"Oh." I said, biting my tongue. "So you were going to start crying in the office?" I asked Bella later that night.
"NO! Who said that?" She asked becoming furious.
"I'm not at liberty to say." I told her.
"Ugh! I hate how everyone here talks shit!" She said.
"Me too." I said, but what I really meant was,
"I wish people wouldn't treat me like you're boyfriend...unless you want to change that." She wouldn't like that joke too much, but then again no one has really liked my joke since high school, since the school plays, yeah those were the days...
