Brimming

Much thanks,
A day that felt like it would never end,
Painful chatter,
The sounds you want to rip your eardrums out to ignore,
Head pain,
Thoughts that should have died long ago.

A life of obligations,
A life you can't escape from,
All those memories that define the way you are,
All those people lost in the change of the winds.

I couldn't help but wonder,
As I held you in my arms,
About all the things left unsaid,
And all the feelings left ignored.
They seem to creep up,
Like a jar - brimming to the top,
Wanting, ever so much, to spill out,
And give you a kiss on the forehead.

But that would break a promise more dear to me than any other.
